TLDR:

Well-Safe Solutions has partnered with Interventek to enhance the efficiency of well decommissioning operations. Interventek will supply its compact and lightweight Bore Selector technology to Well-Safe Solutions, allowing for dual bore interventions without returning the system to the surface for realigning the riser. The technology will be deployed for the first time on the Well-Safe Guardian vessel as part of a North Sea decommissioning project in 2024.

Well-Safe Solutions has chosen Interventek as a supplier of its newly developed Bore Selector technology to enhance the efficiency of well decommissioning operations. The Bore Selector is a compact and lightweight tool that allows for dual bore interventions without having to return the system to the surface to realign the riser. This technology will be used on the Well-Safe Guardian vessel for a North Sea decommissioning project in 2024.

The Bore Selector supports the industry’s move towards more compact and lighter weight systems with improved deck handling and deployment efficiency. The tool functions by allowing a monobore riser or riserless system to be used for intervention on a dual bore Xmas tree, enabling access to a large number of wells in a shorter period of time. It is positioned between the Tree Running Tool and the Lower Riser Package and is controlled by an actuated flapper. The flapper can be moved manually via a standard ROV interface or hydraulic surface controls, directing the wireline toolstring into the production bore or the annulus.

Well-Safe Solutions is committed to realizing safe, smart, and efficient well decommissioning operations, and believes that new technology plays a vital role in achieving these goals. The addition of Interventek’s Bore Selector technology will help boost efficiency when deployed on the Well-Safe Guardian vessel. Interventek will also provide support, training, services, and critical spares to ensure the successful use of the technology.

Interventek CEO Alan Duncan commented that the company’s new solution will help enhance industry efficiency and cost-competitiveness, especially in the decommissioning sector where such compact and lightweight technology is currently limited in market availability. Well-Safe Solutions’ Wells Subsea Manager, Steven Chalmers, praised the partnership, emphasizing the importance of new technology in improving operational efficiency.
